Tales of the singing salesman
As I balanced being a singer and being a sales professional, I often told myself that I couldn't be both. One day I would have to choose between having an illustrious operatic career or having a successful career in the for-profit world. I insisted that I would never be a good enough singer with my 40+ hour a week schedule, nor would I would ever be taken seriously as a sales professional if I was constantly chasing a tenor pipe dream.
When I reconciled, though, what being a successful singer meant to me- I realized that I could be artistically satiated, happy, fulfilled, and all the other flowery words while balancing an amazing career. Further, I understood that my work as an artist would enrich the work I do as a sales & customer service professional.
