Hued Songs: A Cultivation Concert
October 08, 2018
Hued Songs is a community performance series that highlights the works of classical, black composers to further the understanding of black history, culture, and text. Steeped in tradition and rich in history, these works illuminate narratives & themes that continue to parallel our today.
This project was born from my own sense of feeling culturally & ancestrally lost. In this music, however, I found myself. In these songs and in these texts- I see myself. I see roots to a lineage and to a history that originated many centuries before me and many miles from where I stand, yet still undeniably my own. It is a history that belongs to all of us and that deserves a voice.
