Soulful Christmas is a vibrant, family-friendly journey through the sounds that shaped Black holiday celebrations across the decades.
The African-American Research Library & Cultural Center & Hued Songs invite you to experience the magic and soul of the holiday season— inside the heart of historic Sistrunk— with an evening that brings Black Christmas traditions to life through music.

Soulful Christmas is a musical homecoming for the whole family, serving up everything from smooth R&B renditions to gospel glory, and the joy of togetherness fill the air. Soulful Christmas delivers everything from smooth R&B renditions to soul-stirring gospel, creating an atmosphere of elegance and warmth, where memories & music harmonize with the hum of the soul.

Till It's Done: A Music & Poetry Workshop
Join composer King Friday & poet Arsimmer McCoy in exploring sound and song as the carrier of code and liberation.
In this month's workshop Till It's Done: A Music & Poetry Workshop, participants will explore sound and song as carrier of code and caution, and liberatory instruction.
Participants will be guided through the codes found inside of call and response, simple blues chords that act as maps, and calls for rebellion and evolution disguised in beloved dance songs. Attendees will work with Arsimmer to craft lyrics and King to compose a melody, culminating in a final collective song creation; transforming personal experience and tales into powerful expression.
Workshop materials and refreshments will be provided, and those attending are encouraged to bring personal archival materials, and musical instruments with them to inspire their own process, and contribute to the collective's.

Join Hued Songs at the African-American Research Library & Cultural Center. Every month we curate a creative placemaking workshop featuring artists within our ecosystem who will guide participants to engage with Black history and artistic expression in meaningful, interactive ways.
Expect to explore and activate YOUR creativity through; writing, movement, sound, instrumentation and visual artistic mediums to be activated.
Po' Lazarus: A Poetry & Creative Writing Workshop
Join Hued Songs and Arsimmer McCoy in this month's creative placemaking workshop:
Po Lazarus, where participants will explore how Black song has always carried memory, labor, and liberation. The workshop will take you inside the structure of chants and working songs from Plantation hymns and field songs, through Jim Crow era working songs, Civil Rights era chants, and contemporary protest lyrics.
Participants will be guided to create their own song or chant lyrics informed by a personal cultural/historical moment (personal, communal, local, and beyond) using the poetic style of an Ode; transforming personal experience into powerful expression.
Workshop materials and refreshments will be provided, and those attending are encouraged to bring personal archival materials with them to inspire their own process, and contribute to the collective's.
Between the Notes: An Artist Salon & Performance Series
Between the Notes: An Artist Salon & Performance Series is an intimate, ongoing gathering that invites audiences into the creative journey with artists from across South Florida’s vibrant artistic community. Each conversation gathering features a performance activation which serves as a bridge between artist and audience—designed to collapse the perceived distance between the “stage,” and the “seat.”
Between the Notes are living dialogues to invite curiosity, connection, and communal reflection starting off with featured South Florida artists Ja'Nia Harden and Kendall "King" Friday
Expect to mingle amongst the creative cognoscenti, arts enthusiasts and featured performers inside of eccentric and sometimes unexpected spaces. Wine and cheese pairings available for your enjoyment.
Witness: Songs of Identity, Love, and Truth
Join us at The Lynn Riggs Black Box Theatre for an evening of powerful music and spoken word that explores what it means to be Black and queer in today's world. Through gospel, classical, and contemporary music, poetry, and heartfelt storytelling, "Witness" creates a space to celebrate joy, process pain, and find community.
This intimate concert features pianist Am're Ford, poet Arsimmer McCoy, and vocalists Jamar Rogers and Kunya Rowley. Together, they'll share stories and songs about love, identity, spirituality, and belonging—weaving together all the threads that make us who we are.

Hued Songs is thrilled to present our Tulsa debut with "Backing Black Belonging: Arriving in Tulsa" – an intimate concert celebrating Black music and artistry in unexpected spaces.
Experience a vibrant fusion of R&B, classical, gospel, and hip hop as we create a night that honors tradition while breaking new ground and the beginning of a creative journey in Tulsa we're excited to share it with you!
Launching in South Florida through dynamic, community-centered performances, we're bringing that same creative energy to Tulsa. This soft launch event marks our first step in building something meaningful here in Tulsa.

Backing Black Belonging asks "Where do we belong?" From the neighborhoods we live in to the spaces we occupy daily, place and location play a critical role in shaping belonging. At this event you'll explore the intersection of belonging and place, examining the many ways these two concepts are interwoven. Part concert, part reflection- this site-specific tapestry of song and text, will draw inspiration from each artist's own personal reconciliation with the concept of belonging. Inspired by and against the backdrop of Vizcaya, we’ll examine the complexity of belonging, shaped by place, community, visibility, and likeness.
This hour-long program will take place in the Courtyard of Vizcaya's Main House against the backdrop of a mesmerizing full moon rising over Biscayne Bay. It features Hued Songs year-round concert series, Backing Black Belonging, a celebration of Black creativity, innovation, and artistry that imbues Black music within unexpected places.

This concert centers the celebration of Black Christmas and Black Memory and that this unlocks.
