Joshua Walton is a lifelong musician whose passion for music took root early in childhood. From his days in elementary school, he immersed himself in the arts—attending magnet programs, performing viola in orchestra, singing in choir, and exploring Caribbean and jazz traditions through steel pan ensemble. In middle school, he broadened his musical voice by picking up the bass and tuba, continuing to perform classical and marching tuba and jazz bass throughout middle and high school.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Instrumental Performance (Tuba) from Florida International University in 2015. Since then, Joshua has built a vibrant and versatile performance career across South Florida, spanning jazz, funk, gospel, rock, reggae, R&B, Latin, blues, New Orleans brass band styles, and more.
Today, Joshua teaches elementary music with a mission to inspire and empower Black and Brown youth through the transformative power of the arts. He remains an active performer across South Florida, appearing with a variety of ensembles and artistic organizations. His work spans funk and fusion jazz with Pockit Funk, reggae-infused Latin music with Locos Por Juana, Top-40 and disco-funk with Vam Band, and high-energy New Orleans brass with the Soul of Brass Band.
Joshua also collaborates with arts organizations including Hued Songs, performing in productions such as A Soulful Christmas and Remember the Times with the New Canon Orchestra, as well as Me and My Miami with Bravo Theater.
